Low Income Families and Educational Financial Help
If you come from a low income family and you want to go to college then your best bet is to find as many scholarships as you qualify and apply for them. There are several scholarships that are specifically for students who come from low income families. No matter what your financial situation is there are programs set up that will help you fund your education.
There are scholarships and grants that focus primarily on students who cannot afford to go to college due to their family financial status. They are not going to jump out at you. You have to do a little research to find them. Do a simple search and you will be able to find a list of possible scholarships for which you can apply for. Scholarships can cover everything from housing to tuition. Even if you do not get a full scholarship you can always supplement it with several grants that you would qualify for.

Often times in American culture, when a person becomes rich and famous they forget about those who get left behind. This has not been the case with Bill Gates who, in conjunction with his wife Melinda Gates, formed the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. So, how does a Bill Gates scholarship work All of them are designed to help low income students of color; or specifically African Americans, Native Americans, Hispanics and AsianPacific Islanders. There is also an academic focus, though this requirement is not as strict as other scholarship programs. For example, the Gates Millennium Scholars Programs, (perhaps the most well-known Bill Gates scholarship), only requires a 3.3 GPA for eligibility. Other programs may only require a GED or, (in the case of graduate scholarships), a Bachelor’s Degree.

Disability or other physical abnormalities should not be a hindrance for students who want to pursue higher education. In order to provide financial assistance to students who are physically disabled or suffering from any type of disability, special education loans have been introduced. Also, students who have been unable to continue further education due to emotional disturbances, emergency hospitalization for a prolonged period or any other specific reason are also eligible for special education loans and grants. Special education loans are used to cater to the special needs and additional costs of education for students who are qualified. For example, blind students require Braille translated textbooks or special computer equipments that can help them in studying.

Information on these special education loans and other financial resources can be obtained from the office of The American Council on Education’s HEATH Resource Center or at the office of the U.S. Department of Education’s Clearinghouse on Disability Information. Apart from the federal loans, even the schools and universities provide scholarships and grants that have been specifically designed for special students. These loans are disbursed through the special education office or center present at the school.
